Donald Torres
naturalist guide teacher
A researcher and passionate about nature, he grew up surrounded by the Costa Rican dry forest, an experience that awakened in him a deep commitment to conservation and environmental education. With more than 20 years of experience in Ecological Tourism, he has collaborated with renowned organizations and dedicated his career to protecting flora and fauna while inspiring others through tours and educational talks. His knowledge, enthusiasm and vocation have consolidated him as one of the most outstanding naturalist guides in Costa Rica.
Donald is originally from Guanacaste although Monteverde has become his home.
Dinia Suárez
Administrator and founding partner
Administrator and founding partner of Reserva Woodpecker, Dinia has given life to a project inspired by her personal history in connection with the forest that has accompanied her life. More than managing the reserve, it preserves a family legacy through authentic experiences focused on nature, education and conscious hospitality.
Specialist in teaching Spanish as a foreign language, he integrates language, culture and nature in unique immersion programs in Monteverde. Its vision combines sensitivity, purpose and warmth, creating a space where each visitor can connect, learn and value the environment in a meaningful way. For Dinia, Woodpecker is an extension of her history, family, and way of understanding the world.
Francisco Porras
Founding Partner
Affectionately known as “Uncle Fran,” he is a founding partner of Woodpecker Reserve and an essential figure in the history and preservation of the forest.
He dedicated his life to working the land, caring for his family and protecting this natural environment, contributing wisdom, commitment and experience to every decision that shapes the project. With humility, love for nature and a genuine bond with the farm's animals, he represents the most authentic and familiar essence of Woodpecker. Behind every trail and every experience is the constant work of someone who has cared for this forest their entire life.
Marita Porras
Founding Partner & Receptionist
Marita is a founding member and the warm heart that welcomes each visitor at Woodpecker Reserve. Their authentic hospitality and closeness reflect the family essence of the project. Since her childhood, when this forest was her place of play and discovery of the natural world, she has been a fundamental part of the preservation of the reserve. With studies in ecological tourism and a special passion for butterflies, he brings sensitivity, knowledge and a firm dedication to the regeneration of ecosystems.
From the reception, each experience is accompanied with authentic treatment, making each visitor feel part of the family from the first moment.
